Great shot Ann, good detail and very natural looking.
Because of the contrast between white n black I think it is very hard to get the exposure spot on but I would say you have managed this very well.
great pose.
I tend to shoot birds at minus one third exposure compensation to be on the safe side -( most of the white isn't bad on this though)

I was actually on -0.3 and sometimes -0.7 for my exp comp
thanks everybody
I know how difficult it is with exposure on black and white birds, I keep practicing, but I think this shot is fine you have done very well. I love the pose and the detail hasn't been lost. I would be happy with it in my pf, but that's probably no compliment.
Steve.
Another cracker...as you say not quite as good as the other one...BUT he has let us see all his tail, something I have not done.
The "blown" white is dissapearing around the front so I think it's not bad- but the detail on the black back makes up for it.
As we all know it's extemely rare if with get PERFECTION..has anyone managed it yet ?

Hopefully Ron and I this morning Ann, they are at the Feed Station now at long last.
This to me is a dam fine GSW and as the others say very difficult especially when on a dark perch.
You have done very well, especially nice seeing all of him and a great eye
Richard
he is a lovely fellow - great capture I am waiting for our green woodpecker to appear again if I am lucky.............
I like him, too, Ann, he is a very colourful chap isn't he? Another excellent capture.

==beautiful shot Ann ! sorry not been around i was on holiday in france
I have a male and female woodpecker visit the garden most days but have not been able to get a good picture for a while as the slightest movement or noise and they're off.
John

john
A splendid shot Ann, you've captured some excellent detail in his plumage
A smashing shot Ann, lovely detail, I wouldn't worry too much about the slight exposure,
Geoff.
Whites on birds are a pain at times, however, I think that you have made a good job of capturing the colours on this bird. Well done on the stance also - a great shot!
