... or should it be multi-tasking - smoking and paddling his own canoe.

A fisherman on Lake Inle (Burma/Myanmar). The classic shot would be having him cast the net whilst using the paddle with his leg. Alas, not to be, he was on a smoke break, and I was in a boat going the other way! The poles in the background anchor those floating gardens to the lake bed. The light was harsh and the guy's face was very shaded. I've lightened it a bit but any more looks too false. And yes, I know, I've cut off the pointy end of the boat, I was bouncing up and down a bit in our boat GrinGrin

A super response to my Arches image, thank you very much, especially the UA donors whom I have thanked personally (well, by PM actuallyGrin).

Dave

An exotic slice of life. The content of this type of image is more important than 'correct' composition etc. A very enjoyable image to look at.

Given your viewpoint and the light conditions, you have done jolly well in capturing this passing fisherman and his craft so beautifully, Dave.
Your fast shutter has stopped the action and the subject is very crisp and detailed.

Not an easy shot to get in the harsh light and a moving boat but you have got good details and colours - so overall a good image Dave.

How many years of practice, I wonder, go into being able to balance like this at the front of a boat? I actually love the light and details on his face so if you had to do some manipulation to achieve this, well done indeed!

I think this is a wonderful image - so authentic and I love the boat and the shape of the net.
The hat, the paddle an the pose are a photographer's dream.
Background interesting but doesn't detract from the subject.

Contrast handled very well again, the waves make a great lead in and the background poles link in well with his paddle and net. I don't think the face looks artificial, more like the light is reflected on to it. You probably feel the way you do because you know what you did to it! Smile

The mist creates a lovely sense of depth and distance to the image. Nicely captured with the oar at a diagonal. Also very much like the wave action in the water.
