hello Paul and a warm welcome to epz.
some thing about this portrait stands out for me, it has a lovely glow about it and a near 3 d effect no doubt assisted by the colour red,
the background is lovely and uncomplicated and leaves a nice dark but not quite black negative space for the child to look into. i particularly like the way the hair is rendered and the reasonably flat light suits the skin tones of the young child.
as the above comment, a nice bright catchlight in the eye would have been the topping on the cake. the eye is sharp though and the slight softness of the skin is good as i believe that oversharpening would have been counterproductive.
well i guess we could consider slightly different positions and tilts of the head, or attempting to get more of an eye contact, but for me i quite like things the way they are, - a sort of semi candid shot which imo works well
best regards
Phil
i have mixed feelings. Nice and excellent image quality, but because the eye is a little dark - easily corrected in software, the hair clip is the brightest part of the image and is on a third.
The clip thus becomes rather dominat. I really do like the quality.
