It has turned so bitterly cold that I have no inclination whatsoever to trawl around the meadow for critters that are obviously hiding from the wind and rain, so another from the archives, a female orange tip resting on a rather unusual seed-head. I hve only ever seen one of these females here, and a sprinkling of males.
UPDATE: Thanks, John (fishiee) for giving me the correct ID

Some one might kiss your camera if not hands, for such splendid images.
Not only an interesting fluffy flutterby, but also a very interesting plant. And as always, so well taken, great macro work Carol.

What a pretty little critter...
And those seedheads are stunning
V1 in particular is amazing with that green leaf as background - the whole world seems to have turned green.

good shot with a well caught eye, I seem to have missed the eye in my pics![]()
Hi Carol,
Lovely pair of shots. Love both the butterfly and the rather attractive seed head it's resting on in the first image (which is my favourite).
One thing though - it's not an Orange Tip. It's actually a Dappled White. Probably Eastern Dappled White looking at my book here and probably also male not female. It's still stunning whatever it is though ![]()
That is an unusual seedhead! Almost looks like the edges are tipped with frost! The butterfly is amazingly detailed with the hairs so tactile.

Absolutely a spectacular image. A macro image transformed into a work of art.

V1 is stunning Carol, the detail is outstanding and I like all those different shades of green.
