Living in Australia as a child I had never seen dry stone walls.
I am still in awe as to how people can make them.
Have a good weekend everyone!
...and take lots of photos.
I totally agree with you Barbara, I was also amazed the first time i visited the UK as we don't have them in SA either...a great capture with the added bonus of pretty flowers
Dry stone walls are so beautiful, Barbs, and very skillfully built, this one's a beauty. Carol
Super image Barbara, wonderful textures and tones
A nice juxtaposition of man's and nature's ingenuity.
Lovely contrasts, Barbara.
I am also fascinated by these dry stone walls - have never seen them here either !! This is a superb image Barbara - I love the contrasts in this image !! Very well seen and captured !
The composition is good in this one Barbara with the blossom giving a softness to contrast with the grittiness of the stone wall. Great texture.
The Romans were good at them. I love the contrast here, I am very fond of stone walls. I have to be, there are so many stones and boulders in our region in the north that there are stone walls everywhere, a good way to dispose of some of them.
Lovely contrasts in textures. This isn't actually dry stone walling, there's cement in there, but the effect is right.
very well thought out shot. PS hello :-p
A wonderful image Barbara, the textures are superb.
Yes dry stane walls are so cleverly built and labour intensive work.
Good image with the blossom to soften the brickwork.
Dunno why they call them dry stone.
They still get wet when it rains !!
Lovely combination. The stones and the flowers compliment each other so perfectly.
Love the juxtaposition of the soft petal textures and the hard stone - lovely.
A craft which goes back many generations, and each area of the country has its very own particular style..
Dark stones and white flowers ... it's really beautiful, Barbara!
A fine capture, Barbs, lovely tones and textures in that wall
Makes a lovely image with the white flowers.......Sandy
Great contrasts between the softness of the flower and the hardness of the stone.
B R I L L I A N T !!!
My choice of the day.
A great image,But I must Agree with Moira and say that this is not a Dry stone Wall. This wall has some Mortar in between the stones.I have a dry stone wall around the church in my image yesterday and a few day's back when I was looking for Billberries, all they havein these are some lovely stones.
I hope you dont mind me say this
A very clever composition of contrasts
Gorgeous Barbara, I like this VERY much.
Nice contrast between the delicate flowers and the solidity of the wall. Thanks for the mention about the review the other day. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough off the mark.! Thanks anyway.
Walling is such a skill, i can wall (badly), but basically it all boils down to the right stone in the right place.
Great stone detail and the flower are so beautiful!!
Beautiful, I always enjoy stone work.
Just a wonderful composition and contrast! --- Superb Capture, Barbs. ---- Jukka.
Dry stone walls have been a staple of UK photography since the beginning of the art. This is a good one.
What a different and lovely shot with the addition of the flowers
Ufffff! F.G.! This is a marvelous shot.
Excellent shot Barbara the flowers just add the extra bit.
Seems I was too busy yacking to comment yesterday Barbara, loved the flowers cascading over the old wall.
Wonderful texture and tones Barbs..Lin
You have touched a sore point with me because when we lived in the Dales I enrolled in a Dry Stone Wall building course and was looking forward to it.
It was cancelled due to lack of interest much to my disappointment.
Every Dale has it's own unique manner of style of building probably due to the stone used.
Great photo. love it....
This is very lovely, like the contrast of delicate flower and
solid stone walling.
Wonderful contrast and texture, super shot!
Wonderful image, lovely flowers and great textures on those bricks!
good texture light and composition
There are certainly plenty of them in the countryside round my way, excellent textures and tones in the stonework
