V1 shows a detail of the shabono's main post. Although it shouldn't have any metal elements, like nails or screws, this one does.

Shabono's are the main housing of the Yanomami tribe. This is not a shabono, strictly speaking, because it doesn't have a hole in the center.

You may want to see pictures of a real shabono here.

Next time I go I will stay during the night to see if it holds geckos (we call them tuqueques=too-kae-kaes).
I am so glad you enjoy the pictures, that's my pleasure.

All three are beautiful, Marian. I wonder where these are shot? I have friends who have just returned from visiting a number of tribes in the upper reaches of the Amazon (tributaries) in the rainforest of Ecuador. The trip was sponsored by the Pachamama Alliance......a union of rainforest peoples and North Americans, struggling against oil companies to keep their native, ancestral lands, and to keep their very strong and sophisticated cultures..must based on dreams.

Thanks everybody for the comments. This shabono is on the grounds of a resort in Margarita. I was told that it was built by natives flown in from the Orinoco's Delta. I will take more pictures next time I go there, hopefully, in January.

Beautiful patterns Marian.
I remember from my anthropology studies that the Yanomami are one of the most warlike tribes in the world (after the U.S. of course Wink ) I hope you'll be careful when you stay there! Smile
