I managed to crawl up to within 4 metres of this woodcock this week - got soaked in the process but what a privilege to get so close to such a beautiful and shy bird. It never moved a muscle as I approached inch Just relying on camouflage to avoid detection. But it forgot it was in a wet field not a leafy woodland!!
