This could have been superb, but your practice with depth of field has let you down badly. You MUST focus on the eyes - and here the focal point is behind them - the shallow depth blurring the eyes. The focal plane itself is all important, and, for any given aperture, a depth equal to 1/3 in front and 2/3 behind will be adequately sharp.

Agree with Paul, - looks like youve used the centre focusing point (the red square) and focused right in the nose, rather than the eye. It it was the eye, this would be a real winner. Focusing on the nose using f/1.8 makes it impossible for the eye to be sharp, - so if you use f/1.8 and focus on the eye, the eye will be sharp, - better, but the nose will be blurred. So in addition to focusing on the roght area, the eyes, you need to close down the aperture a little more, - at least f/5.6, - but practice with different apertures and compare them, one youve got the hang of selecting a focal point other than the centre.

Your camera has two buttons on the back, upper right; the left, largest of the two has a symbol with small squares on it; press that once, the use up, down, left right buttons to select the focus point to use. The up, down right left are the ones around the set button marked WB for up, AF for right, etc.

Regards

Willie

Beautiful shot !!!!.......love it !!!!

I've done a simple mod. to sharpen up the eyes a wee bit to match the 'nose-area'........apart from that it's exquisite !!!!!!

Fantastic shot,
id ignore the comments about the eyes, that seems like where the focus of this image was as the stuff in front and the background is out of focus
I think you have deffo got the DOF idea down.
Deffo a pass for the experminting here.
Love the subject and the angle.

Great effort
