Doug's place. Might be more familiar to some of you as the Don Whillans Memorial Hut. It's the building built into the rocks under the Roaches. It was originally built by Sir Phillip Brocklehurst as a shooting lodge in 1861. It was lived in by Doug and Ann Moller from the late seventies for about 12 years. Doug was a bit of a character. Known locally as King Doug or the King of the Roaches, he and his wife lived an unconventional life in the cottage until it was purchased by the Peak Park.
This was taken yesterday morning and I think it captures the spirit of the place nicely. The low cloud was shrouding the view and adding a bit of atmosphere. The lights in the windows are just giving enough of a clue as to where the hut is.
If you ever fancy stopping here it's now owned by the BMC and they do rent it out.
Thanks for looking
Paul

Paul,
I was approached by "King Doug" when I was in Knotbury a while back. Apparently he now lives in the farmhouse where you walk down to 3 Shire Heads.....calling him a bit of a character is an understatement!! I think I heard his whole life story that day - and he sent me on my way with a newspaper clipping about the way he lost his house to the Peak Park.
And all I wanted was a quite walk.....
