Many thanks for the votes on Doug's place.
This pair of shots comes from the Birmingham Nature Centre. Only £2 to get in and lots of animals to snap, bargain!!
These are European Lynx (Lynx lynx)
It was previously thought that lynx died out in the UK around 4,000 years ago due to climate change but new evidence indicates they lived at least to early medieval times (10th Century) and became extinct as a result of human activities - over-hunting and deforestation. Changes in the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy to re-allocate subsidies for restoring natural landscapes make it more feasible that species like lynx may be reintroduced in the future.
Lets hope so!
This is a pair of females. The first gave me this wonderful intense stare, the second, well, although a little handicapped still looks absolutely beautiful.
Thanks for looking
Paul

It's not actually a wink. It really hasn't got an eye on this side Smile

Beautiful animals...shame they are not around any more in the wild - although my puddy would probably have a heart attack if he saw one!! Great shots Paul

As did the pigeon that landed in the cage. Looked like a pigeon, well the feathers that were left did anyway Smile

Now not so long ago we didn't pay to get into the Nature Centre at all. However we can still take classes of children in for free and do pond dipping and look at the natural habitat to encourage butterflies, bees etc. Super Centre with lots for families with young children to see and get involved with.........................and of course the linx. Two great shots here Paul. Good for pictures this weekend. I think they probably look like drowned cats today - we've had some very heavy rain

Such beautiful cats Paul and both looking content even despite the eye. Superb detail and composition with both shots and just love that serene almost friendly stare in #1 where you feel you're making a connection with her
