Good idea to use flash, but you should also try to ensure the exposure records the available light so the background looks a little better balanced. Also use a piece of card to throw some light back in on the opposite side to the flash to remove the hard shadow.

I love it. Have been taking pictures of these for a few weeks, without flash, but using a little torch....hard work.
