It's not a case of whether the subject is corny, but of how well it is photographed. Very well, in this instance.

I have never had much luck with Canada geese, the white feathers always burn out and lose all that delicate detail. You have solved that to a great extent by letting the reflection show the detail that is inevitably missing from the bird itself. Next time I go to Wollaton Park I am going to try that idea.
