This shot was captured last week when out trekking with Pete.
We noticed the sky had a saltire in it and decided to capture the moment.
From right to left the hills are: Meall Corranaich where we had just come from (1096mtrs). Next is Beinn Ghlas (1103mtrs) Ben Lawers is next (1214mtrs) followed by Creag An Fhitchich (1047mtrs) then you ca nsee the corrie of An Stuc (1118).

That was too good to let go, wasn't it - I really like how the sky looks here and agree it had to be captured. But what's going on beneath the sky was worth the shot as well - the array of mountain tops looks great, and sits well within the frame. I like the panoramic crop here - I suppose the foreground was just a vast expanse of white, so you were right to do it like this. Speaking of white - it's good to see that you exposed well, keeping the snow white. So often people let it turn greyish or blueish, but this exposure is correct. Well done - great image, would look good on a wall!

Funnily enough, it's not the saltire that does it for me but rather the scene as a whole. Incidentally, thanks for expanding my vocab - I had to look up the word
I do like the sun rays creeping in from the right but find that the cross distracts from these straight lines. I agree with Conrad that the pano crop works well here and the way the foreground leads so well into the peaks. Did you take any more compositions? Have you got a shot with just a little less emphasis on the foreground (i.e. taken from a little higher) so that there is more dominance given to the mountains? Rgds., Adam
