Sometimes, bad weather can work to your advantage.....and getting a bit wet on Thursday meant I was in the right place when the rainbow appeared after the latest squall passed by...
Taken about half hour before sunset on Thursday evening.

I can't decide which I like more - I like the portrait version as I love the dark, rain-filled skies above but then I like the square format for impact....I will upload both and see what you think.

Just lovely .... V1 I think as that empty space above the rainbow seems to add a lot of balance to the shot.

I prefer V2, I think the sky is just too featureless above the rainbow to warrant leaving in the shot. V2 is just spot on in my opinion.

Two briliant components in this.....the bad weather and the sunset...a dream combination together with the rainbow and buildings make a superb image...I like the version #2 as it loses the plain f/g.

V1 for me, - really nice image. I like the graduation in the sky, - though it doesnt have a lot of detail, it lends an ominous mood, and the colour is gorgeous.

Do you have a landscape version? I ask because I can't quite make my mind up whether the black at the top helps or hinders, it balances the shot as Dave says, but it also dominates too as there's so much of it.

Would be great for a front cover to a mag or book, but then there would be a title or masthead to sit in this area. V2 certainly helps for me by reducing this.

Stunning image, how lucky were you to have that rainbow exactly in the right place....!!!! The exposure, composition and colours are fantastic. V1 works best for me, it gives the image balance. Love it. Tracey

They are both excellent Jeanie. I am a big fan of the square format and in this case it does add a dramatic twist to the image. Always worth getting wet for this type of light and weather.

I did also take a landscape shot or two, Paul, and will get round to uploading it....though upside down now on night shift so wont be tonight Smile.

Jeanie

Fantastic shot Jeanie, I prefer V1 with the big sky looming over the buildings, both versions are great though.

What a stunning shot! I can't count the number of times I've driven by this 'boring' old windmill..... but never saw this! Both excellent shots. Very powerful.

I seem to recall a place called, 'Your Father's Moustache' somewhere near here....?

Well done,
