This was my first attempt at using the 400mm F5.6L with a 1.4 T/C. Manual Focus on a bird that was 80 metres away in not very good light, and no tripod.

your description sounds exactly like my bird shots after getting the new camera... I have given up till winter comes and I can see something through the leaves.
But I love YOUR shot, it is well detailed, very natural environment, untweaked. Lovely.

Excellent image Steve of this handsome raptor. They return to their birthplace, hopefully this one will !!! Ospreys are very photogenic.
