These are migratory birds, possibly from Siberia. Every year during winter, they are abundantly available at the lakes/water bodies (called Bil in Assamese) in Assam. One can see a ring (a microchip?) fastened at the leg of one the birds.

The photo was taken from a manually oared boat and from a distance. It was really difficult to take a proper angle as the birds generally fly moment they see you aiming the camera. Thanks a lot for your valuable comments. A want such comments to better my photographs.
