When I lived in Houston, I had a rose garden, with about 30 different varieties of roses; one splendid climber. The soil down there was wonderful for roses. Now that I live in Central Texas I cannot grow roses where I am - we are on top of limestone. I guess I could make a raised bed, but somehow the heat defeats all gardening these days - it's definitely xeriscaping that works here.

My preference is for the capture of "Arthur Bell" for the freshness of it and the slight off-center placement of the rose, which I find more pleasing as a composition.
