Pharmacopoeia
When the new psychiatrist
asks me to draw a person
I tell him I'm a poet,
I don't do Picasso.
When he doctor-scrawls
bottomless repeats of
Thorazine, Stelazine
and other zines,
I tell him I don't do
courage pills.
When he insists on running
his own pill show,
I tell him I don't do
song and dance.
When he brings in the sales team,
fresh from a pharmaceutical expo,
to mainline a tasty new anti-
depressant on me,
it goes down deep,
like a headstone into water.

The next in a series shot at a disused asylum - the Royal Derwent Psychiatric Hospital at New Norfolk, Tasmania.
The images in the series feature examples from a collection of 77 poems penned by Karen Knight, Postcards From The Asylum (published by Pardalote Press). These disarming poems were inspired by Karen's experiences as an inmate at the Royal Derwent in 1969.
