To My Memory

Woke up this morning without memory. Swung my sorrows around and around, machete-cleared a pathway through the communal bathroom, there was only enough soap left to lather one ear, steadied my balance, sky-dived through a funnel of clothes. Have they airlifted me out of the psychotropics? Have I reached the edge of my wilderness? Have I stepped into Lobotomy's Hall of Fame?

The next in a series shot at a disused asylum - the Royal Derwent Psychiatric Hospital at New Norfolk, Tasmania.

The images in the series feature examples from a collection of 77 poems penned by Karen Knight, Postcards From The Asylum (published by Pardalote Press). These disarming poems were inspired by Karen's experiences as an inmate at the Royal Derwent in 1969.

Really love the idea of this project. Would make a great book alongside the poems.

Wonderful, and Jane is right... why not go for a publication of the poems with your shots...

Thanks so much Shaks, Jane, David, Brendan and Suzi - and yes, as it happens, I have actually printed these images and poems together, on lovely Hahnemuehle paper with a cover and wire bound, as a one-off book...
