Bernardo is my chess partner. We play every Saturday at 11am in the upstairs room at Mariano´s bar in the Spanish village where he has lived for 58 years. He is the youngest of 9 children, but only has 1 sibling who is still alive, an elderly sister who is very ill. His father was a Republican soldier in the Spanish civil war.

Thanks for all your comments. I might try a close-up next time to capture the fantastic ruggedness of his face, but today I wanted to get the chess board in, and not to be too intrusive, which is why I took my little 24mm.
I agree about the tense expression, I much prefer this one to the smiling one I uploaded this morning. Thanks for commenting.
