Very cute and good feather detail, the focus is on the back end and not the eye, but I like the capture!

Thank you. It was my first attempt at photographing a bird so found it kind of tricky especially as I didnt have a tripod...

Good effort Claire, i would hazzard a guess that you used auto focus?
hence the focus on the tail, next time try manual focus then you can focus on any part you want!

Good 1st attempt you have captured some nice detail and colour.

Try selecting the central focusing point of your cameras auto focusing system and focus on the eye, I find using a high ISO of say 400 at an aperture of f8 allows the camera to keep up a decent shutter speed, you will find with a bit of practice and a steady hand you will get the in focus shots you are looking for.
