Two men, a couple of log rafts and all of a sudden they are competing like a couple of kids. It was chucking it down at this point in time, so I have nothing but admiration for the way they managed to stay on their feet in the conditions. Some Premier League football prima donnas could learn a thing or two from these guys about staying on their feet instead of diving all over the shop.
The shot is a bit grainy, but it reflects the conditions at the time. I was by this time looking forward to a cup of Horlicks or Ovaltine.![]()
Haven't been around for a couple of weeks due to the government cutbacks. There are no longer the same number of hours in the day as there used to be, yet the politicians deny being involved in the reductions...hmmm.
Many thanks for looking....I'd better get orf and catch up a bit on your images.
Thanks for bothering.

There is a story here, Malc, and that's what I like. Boats, rafts and men, a combination that works well.
The man on the left seems slightly superfluous to me, and he's facing out of the frame, so I've done a mod with a crop for you.
I was looking for the tags... and you didn't disappoint ![]()

I think you're wrong with the cutbacks. There's just as many hours and minutes in the day, it's just that they go faster nowadays!
Your photo looks like my allotment plot at the moment. Seriously considering doing some terrace style paddy fields.
Dave
Love the tags - a great mono shot - so we are not the only ones living with almost non-stop rain

A slice of real working life. These can be the most interesting photographs. There are Quebecois who do this in Quebec Canada. Spring log jams are life threatening. Our boom boats are like your small one. The bigger boat seems unusual. Super image. TG
Very interesting subject matter to see from your part of the "sticks " .....it doesn't look much fun though.
Great observation with the right amount of wood grain!!![]()
I really like this Malc, a very good image, but the treatment you've given it makes it a brilliant image.
And I know what you mean about the Hours in a Day

An image I appreciate very much, illustrating as it does the kind of jobs that some folk still have to do. Just has to be in mono.
I'm interested in the thesis of government reductions of the hours in a day vs. hours and minutes going faster. I drove 360 miles from Kent to Northumberland last weekend - and came home last ![]()

Bill
A dangerous job for sure, so easy to get an ankle broke here I'd wager. I recall the log dancing from American movies and have no doubt it was done the countries of Scandinavia too.

Not my idea of fun....especially if it's raining! And has the government cutbacks meant reducing the river ferry to this?!
A great capture, though, Malc, and the mono treatment suits the bleak weather ![]()
Yes, that is real wallpaper (on my living room wall) in the background of my upload! ![]()

Wonderful documentary with great textures and atmosphere. I like your pearl of wisdom about the footballers.
oh what fun.... a great image of nimble footedness
and from my viewpoint at least you have a job....![]()
