...a wide view of the back of Quinag in Assynt, Sutherland. Striking mountain as you turn the corner and plunge down into the hairpin bend.
Quite a lot of dodging to bring the road out from the shadows.

A very 'different' composition, must have provided a real challenge totake as well as in post-capture. The sinuous curve of the road is very compelling.

Great image Douglas. The Panoramic format really works for this and really captures the enormous sense of space and scale that you get up there. Great stitching too…

Flawless stitching. Love that curving road, and the expanse of the land. Reminds me of areas of Northern Norway where all you see is land, no houses, and just grazing herds.

It takes a while to see it all ni the big version. Good job bringing out detail without adding a lot of noise. Why are there no trees? Is it the poor soil from the peat? I'm sure there is enough rain...lol!

Almost totally peat soil, some trees further on, on the lower lying land, this is quite a high plateau here, the trees are mostly Fir and Birch with some Mountain Ash, the occasional Scottish Oak. Some trees are planted for long term sale, but not so far North as this as far as I know.

Have looked at this scene on many occasions and thought there should be a photo there, but was rather daunted by the big open space in the middle. I see you've managed to use the road as the link.

Shot it before myself Sue with the pano head without success, the right gear does help, It's such abig space to cover you have to use the road for reference hand held.

Cheers m'Dear, I'm in happy mood, just booking the next trip to Harris next month.

Sheep in danger!
Viewed Kin's large and got homesick.
Viewed this large and got more homesick! This shows why I needed the car living in the cottage in Kin's picture. To see all this beauty!
Great composition, like the band of the road winding through the picture and to disapear at the horizon. Great, great, great!
Johanna

PS. It was making your eyes water and my heart bleed.

As Sue says we know this place well, if you follow the river that cuts across the centre of the image upstream from the road about 200 mtrs you will find a wonderfull tall and narrow waterfall. One day the light will be right and it will make a grand photo. Not managed it yet , but one day Smile

Anyway back to yours, great pano, gives a good impression of the space.
