...looking for help here, I think this is a Buzzard, somebody will know I'm sure. Spotted it on the way home yesterday from a fruitless journey on the hunt for something to photograph.
***I'm now sure this is a Common Buzzard matches the photographs by Steven Round a well known avian photographer, thanks for all the help. http://www.stevenround-birdphotography.com/

***Taken @ 300mm and a big blow to get this size image.

Superb wing detail. Like the way he seems to be dropping down to grab something. Great shot.................Sandy

I think its a buzzard as well but will stand down if somebody else says differently, similar to the red kite but without the fan tailWink

OH and I forgot to say - well doneWink

A big surprise Ann and a fine end, it lashed with rain minutes later as I came back down to earth.

Not that I'm any good at avian recognition, Dougie, but it is definitely not a red kite Smile

Whatever the identification it's an image of sheer power and focused predatory intent - superb.

Can't help with ID, Dougie, but well spotted and captured: quite different to your usual work.
(I keep telling you, just drive to Pollok C. Park for something a bit differentWinkWinkWink)

Wonderful detail retained considering the blow up. You've caught the bird and a great angle. Not easy in the wild. Congrats. Paul

Fine shot in the wild Dougie. Once saw two men nearly come to blows over whether bird was an eagle or a buzzard....
Trying to photograph hummingbirds at the moment

Dougie - I emailed the north west Highlands raptor expert (a neighbour of ours in Achmelvich) with a link to your image who has confirmed it is the Common Buzzard and he quotes "a very fine shot of it too"!
