...high above Loch Eribol in Sutherland north of Laid, I found this eerie light.
fabulous capture ..
but why are those stones there
An extremely welcoming composition which had me gripped from the off. The chosen point of view has certainly enabled you to grab as much of this wonderful Scottish Landscape as possible, stunning clarity in depth.
P.S. Good luck with your dentist, I am still shaking.
An open gateway is always an invitation, a lead-in. If this one has seen better days, the same can be said for a lot of us here.
A well chosen viewpoint, Dougie, featuring the fence and open gateway, inviting one to step over the stones and traipse over the heather clad moorland and enjoy this expansive view.
What a perfect little scene! The light on the water, the dark clouds, the white stones and the purple heather... and not the forget, an open gate to take you into the distance. Right!
No need to tear the gate of it's hinges just to get a photograph, mind you you have ended up with a magnificent and inviting image.Hope the Dentist does not hurt your toes when he draws the tooth Dougie. They usually have a female assistant to hold your hand in cases of fear and pain...you'll be OK.
Love the composition of this beautiful landscape - and no rain! I like Barbara's question about the stones across the entrance to the gate - I find there are so many strange things like this in the far north west.
great composition, a photographers dream
I'll take a guess at the answer Barbara, animals step over the stones, so the earth isn't depressed and that would make it easy to crawl under the gate in time???
Any other answers to this riddle???
Would love to walk through that gate. Beautifully composed image.....
Well seen and very nicely presented.
Lovely with the open gate
A well thought out composition Dougie, with the open gate inviting you to walk through and enjoy some of the wonderful scenery Scotland has to offer. Wonderful lighting and detail and also like your explanation of the stones, I never thought of it like that, very well done my friend, hope you are well, Bill.
Certainly a lot to consider in this shot Dougie ; the eerie light, the mystery of the stones and the broken gate.
It seems nobody is that bothered anymore. Come and go as you please sheep.
But how did a dental appointment get into the discussion !!
I like the hint of a sail on the loch.

I wouldn't even have thought of the stones apart from them forming an arrow head with the gate to lead you into the shot. Another piece of our wonderful countryside courtsey of yourself . Moira
Hi Dougie, great photo, have you thought about cropping the photo to show just the water and mountains like a panoramic shot? I think that would work too...
