Lovely, bright, crisp image. Only thing that distracts is the shadow over the tree.

It's there for a reason. Why be distracted? It's a nice bit of contrast.

An absolutely beautiful scene Dougie, but I can't help feeling that my eye would have travelled through it better had the branches in the centre of frame not been there. Do you carry a saw? Wink

Very nice this Dougie! Like the use of the shadow as a lead into the image then up the tree and across the branches into the distant details - conversly to Daves comment, I think the overhanging branches work well here.

I'm with Andy (and you) on the overhanging branches. The image opens up with the heavy shadow leading straight to the decaying ferns; then the eye wanders at a leisurely gait to the fallen wood, meanders through the frosty grass and around the ice-bound loch until finally it encounters a break in the overhead cover and emerges to the glorious glimpse of the snow cap beyond. Lovely composition.
Regards
Bill

P.S.: National weather forecasts give the impression that England ends just south of Darlington while Scotland begins in Aberdeen. In between lie Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh, which are of course disembodied islands that do not get snow, only football.....

That's what's nice about photography. Its very subjective and we all see things differently. Quite often it's the first thing we see in an image that we remember and its difficult to get that out of ones mind.
I think this is classic photography of a classic scene and in fact it was that gorgeous light that caught my eye.

I like the strong composition - similar to the loch Leven shot you posted a few back in approach. I like the boldness and the feeling it gives you of perhaps actually standing there at the time,

Ian.
