...I always meant to post this as monochrome, so here it is.
This is the colour version HERE http://www.ephotozine.com/user/scottishlandscapes-23846/gallery/photo/the-day-th...
Dramatic and stunning Dougie…
In a word---Excellent.
yes!!! mono works so well
That sure is a cracker, Dougie. Had a look at the colour version and I can't decide on a preference. Maybe the B&W...or the colour...no, the B&W... I mean colour...or...oh bugger it, have an Award!
can't not love can I
Quote: Dramatic and stunning Dougie…
I totally agree!!
A wee beauty. Top notch Dougie.
The mono seems to enhance the feeling of an impending storm. A finely converted image.
very dramatic landscape very well captured. all the best kenwil
I recognised this and hunted back. My comment on the original colour upload included
Quote: Looking at the power and weight of that cloud rushing in malevolently, it's easy to understand how the ancients saw gods in the elements. There's a strong character in that cloud and he's not friendly today.
And the colour looks positively benign by comparison!
The cloud scythes through the sky more dramatically in mono, Dougie.
Maybe a similar sight gave Burns that wonderful description - among my favourite lines in all poetry - of
"............................our sulky, sullen dame,
Gathering her brows like gathering storm,
Nursing her wrath to keep it warm."
Took me back to the old days in the darkroom when you dodged and burned images copied and redeveloped and sometimes toned.
I used to have brown fingernails as a lad in photography, and the soles of your shoes were always slippery when it rained, no problems now when you sit in front of a computer screen.
Thanks to all and in particular to Alan for his User Award
Beautiful !!........lovely tonal range & foreboding mood !!
Much more powerful in mono, a really strong composition
A wonderfully dramatic sky that works so well in mono.
Really superb, amazing sky, cannot decide between mono and colour.
mono for me dougie a stunner
Dramatic and dark Dougie A very Merry Christmas to you and Happy Hogmany !!!
Had a quick shufty at the colour Dougie,
and surprised myself that I prefer the mono !!
A super stunning mono.
The sky gets Centre stage and rightly so Dougie. Mono really brings out the definition of the clouds. Its a superb image that really conveys a sense of grandeur. A truly classic landscape which gets my award today.
Wonderful and dramatic sky Dougie, I do love mono
Derek you have made my day and it's only 7am.
Many Thanks your user award is most welcome, I do like this image and was amazed at the time how dramatic that sky was.
Wow, what sky, stunning image
Many Thanks for your User Award Tony, thursday is getting better by the minute.
Like the big sky and mood here Dougie, well worth the conversion
I liked the original, but I think this just caps it for me with the drama you've created Dougie. Just wonderful!
Wonderfully dramatic, Dougie.
This is fantastic, Dougie. For once, the superb Scottish landscape takes second place to a sublimely dramatic sky. But yet the distant, misted peaks remain a critical ingredient.
I haven't gone back to look at the colour version, Dougie. I know it cannot compete with the drama of this. I don't need to see this in colour.
I particularly like Bill's Burns connection - entirely appropriate.
What a spectacular grand vista dramatically presented in mono making the most of that light. Expertly processed, Dougie and a standout image in every sense.
Superb, dramatic sky. Lovely mono - deserving of awards.
Wonderful and very dramatic
Yes Dougie beautiful and dramatic. I remember the days, like you, when choosing the right grade of paper could make or break a mono photograph. Here you have judged the tones impeccably. A really excellent landscape image.
The light is truly magical Dougie, and what a fantastic sky! Perfect in B&W.
Fantastic drama to this sky and I can almost feel that rain approaching.
Dark 'n moody - that's my Scotland, masterfully captured.
