...a wall of large boulders has been piled up as a defence against the seas washing the large pebbles over the rise here and destroying the road just behind.

Great textures in those stones and a wonderful Hebridian sky.

That's very generous Andy, I took quite a few shot where before I was happy, the little pebbles in among the large stones were the final find.

My favourite of these images because of the impact of the stones. They look better up close where you can appreciate their form and texture. They set up the dramatic background whilst also adding depth.

Anfy pretty much sums it up for me. The little details like the pebbles in the wall are what really make it work for me.

sharp as a new pin with great tones and textures, I like the dramatic sky without it the image would not be as strong but you always come up trumps Dougie

Beautiful sky kissing the top of those mountains. In such an exposed place, they would need some form of protections from the seas. Lovely shot. Moira

A sign of global weather change perhaps Dougie. Moody image.

I immediately caught the small pebbles mingling omongst their larger briothers, abandonded by the waves upon their retreat. A magnificent topping to the scene is provided by that sky, Dougie. I never seem to get them as good as this!

Coastal erosion seems a problem in a variety of spots around our coasts, esp. in Yorkshire where buildings fall into the sea: is it a big problem up there too, Dougie?
Love those wee pebbles in the gaps........guess they'd get washed away again with the smallest of breakers, but still hanging in there meantime, offering their diminutive contribution.
Ronnie.

Love this, Dougie. Great to break a few notional rules now and again especially when it has such impact! Far from being a visual hurdle across the frame the wall holds the attention and there's just a small hop into that wonderful backdrop. Canny shooting.

Dougie, very nice comp, sharpness in the stone and fantastic sky, just time to sneek a shot before those looming clouds spot you.......
