...on the Kyle of Tongue in Sutherland. The castle is believed to be the 1,000 year old home of the Chieftain of the Clan Mackay, ruined now but still looks down on the Sound.
Seen here with Ben Loyal glowering down behind.
The castle looks wonderful bathed in that pool of light. Looks a very special place indeed.
One of your best Dougie !!!!!
always nice to see an image from my home village
Nice shaft of light captured superbly!!
The cloud topped and shadowed Ben Loyal makes a contrasting backdrop to the sunlit plateau surface on which the Castle rests, Dougie: nice use of light and shadow in this image from this rugged part of the land.
And the grass around the Castle makes a change from the browns of the heaths/heathers.
Dougie, stunning comp, love the little light hit area, all finished of with that daramatic sky and back drop.......
It looks so small in its pool of light, under the grey menace of the mountain. So much for the pretensions of Clan Mackay.
Reminds me of Shelley's Ozymandias.
Strong image Dougie, encapsulates the essence of the highlands
I took a couple of shots from, I suspect, almost exactly the same spot in 2010, Dougie, but the 50d and sigma lens I had then gave nowhere near as good a result as this...plus the weather was not on our side!
A nice wee break in the cloud to get the light on the castle. Mean and moody mountains behind. Lovely. Moira
As good as it gets.
Many thanks to all for your kind comments and especially to Danny Brannigan for his special award.
Special light Dougie. I've never been here - perhaps on our next trip if we're in that area. Love the massive Ben Loyal looking quite ominous.
Beautiful shot !!!......the bulk of Ben Loyal sure overwhelms that seemingly tiny castle........lovely light & drama !!!!........nice one Dougie !!!!
Lovely bit of light around the castle, stunning lanscape and capture Dougie.
Dramatic light, a great pictrure
What beautiful light, especially near the castle. You seem to be able to create superb images in all weathers! Ann.
Wow! Ben Loyal really is very impressive! The castle looks dwarfted. Amazing vista.
The Summer Walkers
So dramatic ! I can hear the skirl of bagpipes and clan battles just looking at this! gill
Great light and very atmospheric Dougie; a beauty!
Love this one Dougie, All your landscapes are so beautiful. Would love to take photos like these one day. Janene.
The light on the castle brings it out well against Ben Loyal Dougie.
Love this shot, exposure is spot on, well handled. We are coming up to Scotland next week, cant wait.
