A RAF Chinook helicopter dipping a three ton slab of slate in Llyn Idwal to stop it swinging in the stong gusty winds. The RAF were trying to lift the new bridge block into place for the Countryside Commission in the Cwm Idwal reserve.

Hi Ron
Thanks for the comment. Eventually after trying for 15 minutes they drpped the slab about 100m from the bridge as they could not locate it onto the new pillars. The wind was gusting, very strong and was so difficult even to stand up.
I agree the pilots and winch operators are brilliant.
Thanks again
Steve

Quote: Hi - this is a perfectly agreeable capture; though I would have liked to see someone standing on that slanting rock in the bottom left of the frame - if you were with a companion for example, get them to stand back to the camera, and towards the action - its bizarre how as in life, and as in pictures, when we see someone's attention turned to something, we want to find out what they're looking at. This could also have served as an anchor the shot, and I feel would help add a sense of perspective, and scale. You could have afforded to tighten up the shot a little also, without loosing a sense of location. Standing further back, and zooming closer (if you can) could have helped achieve this. Otherwise, if you know whats going to happen - then explore, and find alternative angles...though maybe you did this. As a photo its fine - but you're letting the action dictate the image -- you need to add a more obvious touch of your own to this shot for it to take on a more endearing feel. Cheers. Ed
