Cross section through a long since felled tree. I loved the knotted patterns in the wood, the colour of the lichens and the way it has weathered. It was quite dark in the woods so I used a bit of flash to help bring out some of the deeper details.

Lovely textures, patterns and colours
Love these kind of shots - and I'm amazed at the amount of detail you've preserved here. Nicely exposed, and love the contrasting greens and browns. Lovely work.

Gennie, yes it does look like bark, but its actually the wood of a tree stump that has split and rotted in the damp woods.
Living in the New Forest, I take shots like this all the time, but haven't decided what to do with them yet! This is beautiful.
