On a recent visit to Kruger National Park we stopped in at the Lake Panic bird hide and were treated to quite a spectacle. This male Giant Kingfisher had caught a giant (by his standards) fish. As I snapped away, he proceeded to bash the living daylights out of it against the branch. Sadly for us, he flew off with it so we'll never know if he managed to swallow it!

Who - me or the kingfisher? Smile

I thought about a portrait crop but decided to keep more of the branch in to give some sense of scale (no pun intended). If I had an E2 membership I could have done a series with different shots and crops. I thought the fish bashing shots were maybe a bit too gory for this site though, especially the ones where its insides end up on the outside!

Thanks for the constructive crit, much appreciated. Smile

He swallowed it! Iv'e seen English ones eat fish nearly as big, they just take a while to digest it.

A great image here Graeme, it's just amazing how the food chain works, lovely detail and catchlight in the eye considering it's back light,
Geoff.
