We have a lot of Southern Masked Weavers visiting the garden at the moment, they seem to have had a successful breeding season!

Each adult male has his own method of approaching the food on the ground. This one lands on our wall, then flits down onto the stem of an agapanthus plant before finally coming down to the lawn for bread. Couldn't resist a shot of him on the flower stem.

What a beautiful bird and what a beautiful shot. Gorgeous colors and composition.

I was watching the weavers from a window when I visited in South Africa, and the little birdie built the nest only to be rejected and destroyed by the female. But, not to worry, he was full of determination and enthusiasm to build a new one.

Yes, they're determined little birds. If the female doesn't approve of the nest, he has to tear it down and build another one. My partner has watched one male outside her office build nine different nests and only about three of them have actually been occupied by females.
