I've been waiting for a long time to get some good shots of this Black Shouldered Kite who hunts from the powerlines that run alongside the vlei (marsh) near our house. On Saturday I took a few shots of him sitting on the cables then waited for him to swoop down on his prey. I had previously got a good shot of him swooping but the background was awful, so I was hoping for a better one. This time, however, when he dived off the cable he just descended about a metre then started to hover. Having the camera set on 'sports' mode, I was able to rattle off a good few shots before he flew back up to his perch. This is the best of the bunch.

your patience paid off on this one, a really crisp shot. I am getting a long list of birds spotted with visiting this site too - and from the comfort of home Ha, lol

Very good flight shot of a top ten Rapter i do most of my birding in souhtern Portugal were i have found one or two of this Kites .Its nice just to wacth them big bonus to get some sharp images .Were did you get your shots from ie whot part of the world, all the best for the new year Danny
