The Firth of Forth with Bass Rock in the background.
This footbridge is partially submerged twice a day at high tide.
I took it using a three minute exposure which has picked up the remnants of the sunset on the brickwork and given the water the icy effect. The light house on the rock is just visible in the far distance, the banks of the river which it normally crosses are just visible under the water.
Have a look at the big version, I think it makes more sense. The graffitti on the bridge looks like embroidery!
I have had this image in mind for a while now, I waited for the tide and light to coincide with a very bland sky to give the surreal effect I was looking for. I am really pleased with the result and I am on the lookout for more bizarre subjects to snap!

Interesting. It must have been almost dark when you took this. Great end result. Quite surreal.
My star photographer in Edinburgh Gordon Terris took this for me a couple of years ago as a stand a lone image, I thought he was at it as they say.
This is a typical Simon slant on this, with the channel showing on the top of the water, you are my friend, very special.
All the very best

A simply beautiful serene and pure image. Excellent camera work, Simon.

How the f .. hell this doesnt have an EC is beyond me. To be honest this is probably my favourite landscape shot on EPZ this year and is starting in it's simplicity.
Now get it printed, framed and sent to me for the wall (ASAP !!)
Dan
Thaks for the C an C's everyone.
Thanks Dan, so pleased you like it , I will let you know when I get some prints done!
Simon
Almost every image you produce shouts quality !!this is no exception, and one of your best as far I am concerned. Love it.
Phil
This is very good Simon, love that surreal feel to this and I love the way you have caught the last of the sun on the submerged bridge. Great Work.
Scott
still looks as good this morning Simon!
Out of interest did you try a version from a slightly lower viewpoint so that the horizon is visible beneath the bridge?
Mike
Hi Mike,
I did but I wasn't so keen because it reduced what is visible of the bridge disappearing into the water which is the bit I was most interested in.
I did take some from higher up as well which I like, I may post one of these at some point.
Cheers
Simon
P.S.
It's just come back to me what was going through my mind at the time!
I wanted to reduce the number of lines to an absolute minimum to make it a simple as it possibly could be. To put the main shape of the bridge on the same line as the island emphasises the parallel arcs and gets rid of an extra line at the same time.Voila!
Or so I thought!
Definitely an interesting image. At least you have a refuge if caught by the tide!!!!
Keith....
Exceptional photography, very high standard.
Johanna
Awesome. How did I miss it? I only saw it by viewing the 'best of' gallery. This is the kind thing that I'm looking for myself.
Patrick
This is out of this world a truly remarkable image.
First class piece of photography.
Ian.
The timing is remakable. Also the picture is a one off.
