I think some fill light would have been good on her right, just to soften up that shadow, but I love the idea and the overall effect.
Lighting with a torch lacks the fine control you have with flash, you have to remember where you have “painted” and where you haven’t, there is of course a much larger margin for error.
I hear what you are saying about a fill light and agree (although you can’t have a fill light as such) it is light painting and is not a perfect world situation, mistakes get made, and I made a fair few, all in all though the “fill light” aside, I an fairly happy with it.
Try painting a halo in midair in total darkness with the ends meeting to form the circle, now that is a challenge ![]()
I done others with better lit face but a poor halo, also with unwanted light trails (Oops) it’s a choice what is more important.
