HI to everyone. Sorry to have been so scarce just recently, but I do have news and its all good. I will let you all know whats happened as soon as I have a little time, but for now I hope you enjoy some of my images. I will upload some to my PF and your welcome to visit. Good to be back on EPZ again and I will let you all know my news very very soon. Until then thank you so much for being so patient and kind. So fantastic to be alive again.
The Dikkop, is around 250mm in size and as you can see by the size of its eye it is a nocturnal bird and a noisy one at that. I have included an image of the chick at 3 days old. It can run at birth and in this image has remained absolutely still, not even a blink as I approached, the camouflage as you can see is exceptional and very easy to step on them by accident. Normally lays on rocks and even the 1 or 2 eggs blend in with the ground. The adults are so fast even Road Runner would be jealous. They are very protective of the chick and hide away during daylight. They are capable of standing like a statue or even going to ground and remaining motionless relying on the camouflage to remain hidden. The Chick tens to hide between rocks during daylight as the adults remain on guard.
