These are more pictures from the restored No 1 Dynamometer Car at Swanick Junction on the preserved Midland Railway.
V1,V2, & V3
Throughout the runs, a documentary team were filming the activities and some of the guests decided to have a go at getting some of the instruments and pen recorders on the main dynamometer table going. The camera man got quite interested in all this and recorded quite lot of footage. I walked in on an intense discussion about longitudinal acceleration and deceleration measurement. Then there was a shout and a lot of smiles as they got the pen traces going. Then it was "here you are son, get this on your camera!" Bearing in mind it must be getting on for 50 years since this equipment was last used together with the gross neglect the car suffered, I was amazed they even got the pens to work.
V2 & V3
One of the cameramen then filmed the train backing up the hill to the top shed. Even the awful weather couldn't spoil what had been a perfect day.
Spike.
