Unfortunately, this shot appears to suffer from artifacts caused, most likely, by too much jpeg compression. How did you go about preparing this shot for upload? I know it's hard sometimes to squeeze a detailled shot into 60k but even then there shouldn't be such obvious artifacting.

It almost looks as if you converted to jpeg at full size and then resized to fit the 500 pixel limit. It's much better to leave the conversion to jpeg to the very end of the editing process. Use a lossless format such as TIFF to store your images and take copies from this to convert to jpeg.
