...not by me I might add. This was the work of my insect-phobic father. The abdomen is missing...yucky! Quite pleased with this for a cheap compact shot tho.

Ah no sorry...forgot to add...the reason it was swatted so enthusiastically by my father was that it was a hornet...and it was massive.

Yeah I thought it wasn't a regular wasp. A hornet eh? How cool.

Apparently it flew through the window like a B52 bomber! A slight exageration I think...but yes...a hornet.

You brutes! Poor Hornet - it was only looking for somewhere to nest for the Winter Smile

If you'd rotated it so that it was upright we may not have seen the "missing bits". Very sharply photographed

Brian

Nah...I rolled it all over the page and I couldn't get an interesting enough shot from the back. This was taken in Easter this year so it certainly wasn't looking for a winter hide-out!

And it wasn't me that killed it by the way...I'd have put it out in a glass. Wink

I do like this very much. The composition is spot on, well captured.

Great detail - the shadow adds to the composition too.

Click.

Hope your dad swatted it with The Financial Times and not the Sun (not the way to go)
Great shot though by you and your dad.
: ^ )

It certainly wasn't the Sun! Give him some credit! Ick! No it would have been The Guardian. LOL!

Utterly brilliant. You've got some good detail there, probably a bit more than we needed actually!!!

Swatted.

+ve: Shadow and colours look good and clear. Compostion is excellent.

-ve: Maybe a change in DOF so the whole of the hornet is in focus. Maybe not possible on a compact though.

Good capture, epsecially since you are using a compact.

+ve: Killed by a Guardian reader! Good detail and light. Nicely comp'd

-ve: Actionable by the Insect Preservation Society! Weird pose (despite it missing the majority of body).

Rotating CCW 45 deg might produce a more interesting take
