The day following our trip to Neuschwanstein Castle we went to the medieval walled town of Rothenburg, which dates back to around AD 970. It has to be one of the most delightful towns I've ever visited, with its quaint buildings and cobbled streets. Its full name is 'Rothenburg ob der Tauber', which means in German, 'Red fortress above the Tauber', the town being located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. As to the name Rothenburg, it's said to come from the German words Rot (Red) and Burg (burgh, medieval fortified town), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river. Siebers Tower is one of many clock towers in the town, and is seen here in the centre.

Single Raw image processed in Adobe Camera Raw 7, tweaked in Photomatix Pro 4 and Photoshop Elements 11.

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging.

As always Trevor you have provided the viewer with an informative foreword which immediately sets the scene. For me it is a trait which I think so many should adopt... The image itself fantastic, captured from what appears to be an ideal point view allowing you to capture as much of this Fairy Tale setting as possible, your 18-55mm lens being the perfect choice. If I were a purist I would have removed the scaffolding, the white van and maybe the row of cars in yonder in order to provided a clinically clean composition. Your choice of processing has been done sympathetically and wisely allowing the beauty of the location to shine through without being destructive and over the top.

All in all , a beautiful image, very well observed, composed, exposed, captured, processed and presented Trevor

Looks a pretty hillside town in typical south German fashion. I agree entirely with Nathan's comment above; since I'm no purist I am happy to see the town as it is lived in rather than left clinically vacant awaiting the tourist hordes on high days and holidays.
I wrote south German but in fact it reminds me of Meissen in layout if nothing else!

Bill

As Nathan says, you always provide such interesting b/g info about your shots, Trev: indeed this view shows what a delightful old town it is and what an experience to be able to wander round the old centre with it's medieval buildings.
A fine view that begs one to visit again and explore further.
Ronnie.
