Another shot from the trip with Trev, Sarah and Julie that started at Bodiam and then went down to Hastings in the blizzard of snow.

Once that had stopped the beach was snow covered and gave us all the kids in a sweet shop feeling, which was great.

The light was weird but wonderful and strong, this shot was taken with Lee ND grads and a polariser.

Comments and crits welcome...Steve

Please try LARGE if you have the time, ta.

Fantastic image Steve. I think I might have been tempted to crop away a good deal of the empty snow space below the boats and included a great deal more of the that very powerful and imposing sky ( if your original allowed that). Perhaps also to crop a little on the right to remove the bright eye catching red cans which would also have the effect of moving the boat a wee bit off centre.
I hasten to add that this is very much a personal view and is in no way to be regarded as a criticism of this lovely shot.
Regards
Ron

Thanks for your comment Ron, I do like hearing alternative views as it makes me think differently about my composition, the original has no more sky as this is it.
My reason for the foreground was the very nature of the snow, as it's not often seen on the beach and I liked the lead in of the tractor rut from the bottom left.
I did actually move the red fish baskets into the shot so that it made a trio of red with the bottom of the 2 boats however I do take your point about the large boat maybe being to central and I also acknowledge the third is not quite on the money as a horizon either.

Glad you like it.

Thanks again, Steve

I like your low POV throwing the boats against the sky: and I do like the lead in lines carrying the eye to the subject. Interesting to read Ron's comments and your reply......helps one to appreciate the structuring of the image that much better.
Ronnie.

Glad you managed to get some snowy shots that day, we went on to London WWT no snow and not many birds about, wish we had come into Hastings. I have never used Grads maybe its somthing I should look at.

I really like this Steve, yes the light that day was kind of weird but fabulous on the beach with the snow! I think you handled the light conditions well and to me the comp' is pleasing - I like the curvature of the shingle leading to those red crates and in turn the eye is led up the ladder to the boat - lovely work! Smile
