I've been toying with uploading this, because of it's subject. I doubt very much if it will do well but I wanted to try something different.
It was taken back in 2008 on a visit to Krakow in Poland. We visited the infamous concentration camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau, known as Auschwitz 2. What struck me most was the silence, not a single birdsong could be heard at all, at either site. There was a complete sense of cold and foreboding around every corner.
This image is far from my comfort zone and using some new techniques I have never used before and recently learnt.
I would be interested in any critique about the techniques I have used.
Many thanks for all the votes and comments on my Robin.
Have a great week.
Steve.

You should not feel bad about uploading this, we must never forget, I want to visit here myself to try and understand the suffering, as for the image it is very well composed. - gary

Its good to take on difficult subjects and you have done this well.
Its obviously taken in sunlight, as there are shadows, but there's very little warmth, which is appropriate.
The silence is well portrayed - no movement, no life and seemingly no end to the barbed wire.
I would be interested to know what techniques you have used as you have asked for comments on them
Regards
Helen

Nicely composed and produced and a different shot than many that I 've seen of Auschwitz.
I wonder if this might look powerful as a high contrast mono? And I might crop the top a little to emphasize the barbed wire fence

Sombre sky works well although you could crop some of it off as mentioned by Howie.

we visited Auschwitz and found the same thing - total silence with no birds singing and if I remember no growth of trees etc. a very strange atmosphere but glad we went, my son in law was posted in Germany with the army his regiment was not far from the camp, as soon as I saw this picture I thought it was this place and feel you show it well. for me it brought back memories

A difficult subject very well captured, you can really sense the eerie silence. If I might make a suggestion, I think this photo would really work well as a B&W conversion.

Excellent work capturing the atmosphere of this place, you can sense the silence ...... also very poignant as the film 'Schindler's List' was shown on tv this afternoon.

A difficult subject to tackle but you have conveyed the desolation and continuing despair that seems to hang in the air here so effectively with this shot.

Thank you for this image. Having recently read two books that spoke about bothe places, it is interesting to see the place AND to have a first hand comment re: the ambience. A very sad story indecd!

Hard to grasp at times how evil some people have actually behaved toward fellow human beings?
There are those who believe this actually never happened which has to be the single biggest reason for showing it did!
This kind of image is hopefully a constant reminder that this terrible moment in history should never be allowed to happen again, yet all around us in this strange little world, there is the constant fear that it will....and does!

Very poignant images to stir the soul!
