Known as 'Our Little Friends' by the B17 Flying Fortress bomber crews, the P51D Mustang played a vital role as bomber escorts, to and from the targets, helping ensure Allied air superiority from early 1944. The P-51D started arriving in Europe in 1944 and quickly became the primary USAAF fighter in the theater.
These two beautifully preserved aircraft were in fine form displaying at Shoreham despite the weather. The most recognised sound of the awesome Merlin engine combined with the characterful whistle of the air rushing over the gunports in a dive make it unique and a welcome sight and sound.
I hope you like them as much as I enjoyed watching them.
Many thanks for all the votes and comments on my prevoius airshow uploads.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the good weather.
They are worth viewing LARGE if you have time.
