Wow!!! What a great photo of a true legend.
I was born in '45, the end of the war, and we lived in Gander, Newfoundland, next to the main runway. I remember as a young boy my friends and I watched the Lancasters being landed at Gander for fuel, they were enroute to the United States. Most of the landings were the first in the Lancaster for those pilots, they had never flown them before, and we watched as they porpoised, ground looped, and went off the runway. None were seriously damaged, and we watched them leave for there final destinations.

thankyou for your comments and stories from the past, its nice to read them, i am quite lucky as i only live 20 miles from the base where the lancaster, 3 spitfires and hurricane are based and will be displaying every week during summer so i will be able to watch them regularly. nice to see these aircraft preserved, long may it last.....................Alan
