From a trip to RAF Museum Cosford in Shropshire a while back now. I have a fascination for aeroplanes - military planes mostly - don't know why - probably all the Navy Days I went to as child with dad who was a naval engineer - I can spend hours just looking at the sleek lines, admiring the wonderful engineering and ingenuity of the men and women who actually design such beauties. But, when at RAF Cosford, I can remember getting really emotional when viewing this missile. To me its structure is something of sheer beauty - but that such beauty can cause untold devastation and misery...........such a paradox.

V2 is the original capture without the overlay

Prefer the original.
And yes,it does have a certain devastating beauty !!

Interesting write-up, Sue. A paradox indeed.
I do like your original, I think it has enough interest without being manipulated.
Having said that, I like what you have done in V1 because it's your interpretation of its destructive side, and it works for me.
Can you see the face on the front of the plane? - it looks quite sadSad!

As Neil says, V 1 looks as if you had sunk it under water, Sue: I can empathise with your interest in such equipment......they can be two things at the same time......both beautiful and lethal.
Like what you have done in V 1.....a very effective presentation.
Ronnie.

This is a superb capture in the first place. However I feel the overlay has lost some of the wonderful colours and clarity of the original, particularly on the left side of the shot. It strikes me that it might be worth considering a gradual overlay here. This would be where parts of the original are brought back, using an overlay that is gradually blended with a masked layer and brush. I think this is a suitable image to try this out with.

Wonderful work in V1 Sue - reminds me somewhat of the Gerry Anderson TV programmes such as Stingray! I also like the original - well done!

I too thought you'd photographed this underwater, until I read your write-up and saw V2! A super piece of work, Sue Wink
If you ever get up to Manchester, I can recommend a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry, located on Lower Byrom Street. It's quite literally a stone's throw away from Coronation Street and the Granada Studios, and is free to go in. Part of the Museum is located across the road in an old market building and has numerous aircraft on display inside. If you do the whole Museum you can easily spend a whole day there Wink

Yeah, I know what you mean about the paradox of these things. HMS Dragon was moored right outside my flat over the weekend and she's an amazing ship. I mostly get around the paradox by being fascinated and awestruck by what these things can do, while hoping that they never have to actually do them.

Dave.
