I'm sure that the Rusty crowd would rather you'd left it in colour, so they can savour the rust. Strange lot. 
Interesting composoition. I just find the background a little confuding & intrusive. You could have done with a shallower depth of field to blur it, & make the subject stand out more. Not havinf seen the original, I don't know wether colour would have helped or confused it further.
