Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the highest time of the kingdom, between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 13,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2230 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day. The sunsets are spectacular and you don't normally have to wait until the cows come home to capture one!! ![]()

Superb image. Lovely mistiness in this very fine composition.

This is superb, it tells us so much so beautifully, about a country's history, aesthetics, way of life.
Moira
Hugely atmospheric, cows or no cows. Fascinating place too.

Dave, a shot of 1000 dreams......you know I am a fan of your low light work, but the is truly exceptional, you could say so many great things of a shot like this but why waist time that could be spent just looking. Very well done on all those UA's, I would just like you to have another..........This sould be up there for photo of the week............great work mate.
Paul.
Wow.
Everybody else has said it all.
Brilliant.
Regards.

An amazing capture, Dave, with a nice recession of tones into the distance, with the buildings rising up out between the trees, and a super sky too. The inclusion of the cattle in the foreground really adds to the scene
Well done on all the UAs! ![]()

Wow, Dave, what an atmosphere, and the number of User Awards speak volumes.
The whole scene you have captured is magical excellent work indeed a real pleasure to view

What a brilliant shot! The fiery sky, the sorta mistiness in the middle ground, and the livestock coming home at the bottom. All sitting so well together.
And I don't think I've seen that many user awards on one pic...EIGHTEEN so far. Nice one, Dave ![]()

this is hard to beat. Just stunning. Congrats on all those well deserved awards.
wonderful shot i think it would make a brilliant giant canvas to hang on your wall
My word what a beautiful image and and what a sight this must have been to witness. Superlatives deserved Dave. If I hadnt already used my UA tonight you would have had another to add to that long row of decorations.

It's a really well composed scene with lots of interest from the herd to the temple and that great sunset. The central placement of the temple works well with it's symmetrical shape and the darker trees below it help guide the eye into the scene. All those layers give lots of depth thanks to your choice of an elevated PoV.
Being slightly picky, hand holding at 160mm and 1/60 is a big ask for anyone's technique and the image is soft but I can't see how your could have improved this without a tripod. Closing down to f/5.6 was a good move as you get more sharpness out of the 70-200 f/4 lens optics but more than that and you would have needed to crank up your ISO to 800 which is where the 7D starts to suffer from noise in a noticeable way. As ever going on trips with non-photographers means all sorts of compromises must be made... as I know only too well!!! ![]()

That is one very enviable shot Dave and worthy of all the accolades and more.
I haven't got to grips with user awards yet but if I had I would return your compliment ( many thanks) here if I had. Top notch !
