Under the clear frosty nights in winter, soft ice crystals form on objects that have been chilled below freezing point, this is known as hoar frost and looks very much like snow, it attaches to trees grasses etc., and this was the magical scene in Glen Dochart last Saturday.
I took this shot whilst Doug was paddling around in the water with his wellies on. LOL

You certainly know how to capture the moment. Excellent work!! I've taken a browse through your portfolio and there's a bit of a Colin Prior in you I think!
Beautiful scene, think I will stay by the fire this winter. If I am able to get shots like yours I'll change my mind. Well done,Louise on getting this wonderful shot.

Congrats, well deserved on the awards. A wonderful winter wonderland, you must have been frozen. Fabulous. Well done. Helen
Fantastic Louise. I would love to see Hoar frost - it looks so beautiful, especially here in your shot.

I wanted to be #100 but missed it by a hair! Or would that be an ice crystal? You really captured the feel of this place. I've heard that this can happen up at Yosemite on the coldest couple of days in the winter and this is great inspiration to go there when the timing is right.

Unbeaten photograph by an unbeatable photograher!
I did not know the term hoar frost. Thanks. In Dutch we call it 'rijp' (pronounce ripe). Quite some years ago in the northern part of The Netherlands there was so much 'rijp'that the trees could not carry the weight. After the ripe thawed away the trees looked like a hurricane passed by.
Wow! Just been to see Dougs' verion of this ... can't decide which I like best! Maybe yours, 'cos at least you had the sense to stay on dry land! Don't know how he could go into the water on such a cold day...
Well done on the EC and HC - you both deserve them.
We've just had hoar frost here in Carlisle, so I might upload my close-up shots of it soon (though nothing as spectacular as this!)
Well done again.
Sarah
Louise, what an absolutely stunning set of pictures, you should be proud of them. I am planning a holiday in Scotland this year, can't wait!......Joe
I put this up to show Pete, and he says Oh yes, that's good. So you have two for one
Can't imagine how many degrees of frost you had to make this lovely scene
