It's a nice image....wonder why there aren't too many clicks ... maybe without cropping it would have looked much better ... my personal opinion is ... since the figure of the man is in silhouette showing more water would have worked fine.

Simple but effective. It's a nice low light capture.
And now coming to your problem ... may I share my little experience? Well, no need to worry about not getting the first time. All one needs to do is snap as many shots as possible and from different angles ...... later you'll definitely find you've captured some great shots.
In the meantime one slowly gets to learn more and more .... thanks to photosites like EPZ.
